PROFESSIONAL PROFILE |

Christoph Hewel is a German and European patent attorney. His practice is focused on advising and representing clients in the information and telecommunications technologies before the German and European patent offices, the Federal Patent Court and the Federal Court of Justice (in patent nullity proceedings). During his career he could gain profound experience in patent litigation, in particular in multi-national litigation proceedings in the field of telecommunications and computer implemented inventions. Due to his past work for a big French patent law firm he has moreover extensive experience in consulting French clients and colleagues. In addition, Christoph is specialising in the field of machine learning (i.e. artificial intelligence), in particular by representing several European research institutes in the domains of automated driving and computer vision. In this context he has further initiated a research project with the Hasso-Plattner-Intitute in the field of NLP (natural language processing). In particular, he is investigating together with researchers of the institute how deep learning (i.e. neural networks) can be leveraged to process patent texts, e.g. for prior art search.
